Theatre Studies at Dereham Sixth Form College

Course description

Theatre Studies develops students’ enjoyment and interest in performance and theatre from both a performer and audience perspective. Drama complements many different A level subjects, particularly English and Music. It develops important skills such as imagination, confidence, communication as
well as fostering students’ creativity. This gives Theatre Studies students skills which are very attractive to a huge variety of employers. The course provides an
excellent insight in to society and culture of both the past and present.
The college has a history of producing excellent live performances each year, particularly those in the Shakespeare Schools Festival. We follow the AQA A specification.


In the first year you will study some key areas of Theatre Studies to give you a firm grounding for further study.

  • Live theatre production seen and prescribed play
  • The Doll’s House.
  • Presentation of an extra from a play.


In the second year you will examine a few chosen areas of Theatre Studies in greater depth.

  • Further prescribed plays including pre-twentieth century.
  • Presentation of a devised drama.

Entry requirements

A*-B in Drama or English Language.
