Sport at Lodge Park Academy

Course description

This specification builds on the student’s experience from Key Stage 4 and GCSE to enhance their knowledge and increase their understanding of the factors that affect performance and participation in physical education.

The specification offers students the opportunity to experience and develop an interest in a variety of roles in sport such as performer, official and/or leader/coach at AS and then be able to specialise in one at A2.

The content of the course will address current contemporary topics in sport such as the impact in the use
of ergonomic aids, technology and increasing commercialisation of sport.

Units Studied – Year 12
Pupils complete three different topics which are examined at the end of Year 12.
Topic 1 – Applied Physiology
Topic 2 – Skill Acquisition
Topic 3 – Opportunities for Participation

Students will also be assessed on their practical ability in two different sports. They can be assessed as a performer, as a coach or as a referee. There is an expectation that students will continue to play sport outside of the academy as there is a need to demonstrate their ability in these areas.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE qualifications at C grades or above, including GCSE Sports Studies or BTEC Sport.
