Course description

Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Relevant Practical Skills, data handling and synopsis, including topics such as:

  • atomic structure
  • amount of substance
  • bonding
  • energetics
  • equilibria
  • redox
  • kinetics
  • acids and bases

Entry requirements

The minimum requirement to study at Knights Academy is at least 3 GCSEs A*-C plus English and Maths at grade 6

You will also be required to achieve a grade B in GCSE chemistry

Assessment

AS level:

Paper 1: Inorganic and Physical Chemistry

1 hour 30 mins written exam; 80 marks; 50% of AS level

  • 65 marks mixture of short and long answer questions
  • 15 marks multiple choice questions

Paper 2: Organic and Physical Chemistry

1 hour 30 mins written exam; 80 marks; 50% of AS level

  • 65 marks mixture of short and long answer questions
  • 15 marks multiple choice questions

 

A level:

Paper 1  Inorganic chemistry + some Physical chemistry

2 hours written exam, mixture of short and long answer questions; 105 marks; 35% of A level

Paper 2  Organic chemistry + some Physical chemistry

2 hours written exam, mixture of short and long answer questions; 105 marks; 35% of A level

Paper 3  Practical skills, data handling and synopsis

2 hours written exam; 90 marks; 30% of A level

  • 40 marks of questions on practical techniques and data analysis,
  • 20 marks of questions testing across the specification,
  • 30 marks of multiple choice questions
