Barbering Level 2 Diploma at Chichester College
This progamme of study is designed to enable you to take the first step on the ladder to become a Barber. It is fast moving and suitable for hardworking candidates who have a creative flair, a lively and tactful personality with a genuine interest in people. It is challenging and varied covering a range of skills to enable candidates to enter the barbering industry where they will be cutting, styling and colouring clients hair.
If you are aged 16-18 years you will follow a study programme consisting of your main qualification, English, Maths, Enterprise, Work Experience and Enrichment activities. If you achieve GCSE grade D in English or Maths then you will re-sit your GCSE in these subjects. If your GCSE grades in English and Maths are below a D grade then you will do Functional skills in both subjects. 19+ learners will not undertake English and Maths. The skills developed by the learner include: • Client consultation for hair services • Colour and lighten hair • Cut men's hair • Style men’s hair • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp • Cut facial hair • Health & Safety • Promote products and services to clients • Reception duties • Working in the hair industry • Create an image based on a theme • Display a stock to promote sales
The delivery of this course will be a combination of demonstrations, practical sessions, structured theory delivery, group work, self-directed study, classroom discussions, research and lectures. External guest speakers are invited in throughout the year
Aged 16 years or over before the 1st September in year of entry, you will need 3 GCSE’s at grade D or above including English language. If you have a current Level 1 Barbering qualification, you will need to pass a trade test and interview. All candidates will undergo an interview
Practical skills will be assessed through observation and feedback. Theory knowledge will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, on-line exams, oral questioning and presentations.
