English Literature A Level at Strode's College

Course description

Literature is an art form through which writers use language to convey ideas and observations about their own and imagined worlds. This course offers you the opportunity to explore the construction and context of a range of literary genres. You will be encouraged to consider your own literary preferences and with your class teacher help construct your own area of study for course work.

Course content

This is an ideal course to learn and explore a range of prose and poetry texts. Analyse the ways in which language is used to shape meanings in literary texts. Explore and discuss different interpretations of texts and learn and apply relevant terminology and concepts.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements for a Level 3 Pathway. Plus C in English Literature GCSE.

Assessment

20% coursework and 80% written examination.

Future opportunities

Students achieving an A Level in English Literature can progress to a range of careers including Teaching, Journalism, Editorial Work, Marketing and PR. Many of our students go on to study English Literature at university; a degree in English is an excellent foundation for a wide variety of careers, demonstrating a high level of academic discipline.
