This is a 2 year course leading to a full GCSE qualification.
For further information contact Mr S Ellinson: Subject Leader, Social Sciences
During the GCSE course you will cover 6 areas of sociology; these will include the family, education, crime and the media. You will also investigate what sociology actually IS, and how it's relevant to everyday life.
What do I need to succeed on this course?
- An interest in the world around you and how it works.
- Very good English and Maths skills.
- Ability to work in an organised manner and to meet deadlines.
- An ability to understand complicated ideas and to think about familiar things in new ways.
Students will sit 2 examinations (50% of total marks each), one at the end of Year 10 and one at the end of Yr 11.
Many GCSE sociology students go on to do A levels in such as Sociology, Psychology, Government & Politics, History and Law. Sociology provides a good introduction to understanding the world around us and to investigating current issues, so it's very valuable for many professions and degrees.
