Sport BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Strode College

Course description

This one year course is designed to prepare students for the workplace in leisure and recreation. It aims to build students’ knowledge and confidence to progress to higher level courses or employment. A range of skills will be delivered through both theory and practical lessons

You will complete a range of units including topics such as: Fitness Testing and Training; Practical Sports Performance; Anatomy and Physiology for Sport; Injury in Sport; Leading Sports Activities; Development of Personal Fitness; Sports and Leisure Facility Operations and Sports Psychology.

Visits to local and UK sports facilities are arranged to enhance your experience and you will undertake a work placement in an appropriate sports setting. You will work with a local primary school leading children in sports activities to help develop your teamwork and leadership skills. You will have opportunities to enjoy a range of sports, both competitive and recreational, and to use the college fitness suite.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades E or above or equivalent, such as NVQ Level 1 plus a GCSE grade E or above in either English Language, Maths or Science. Interest and enthusiasm in sport is an important requirement.


Most of the units are internally assessed through assignments that are set and marked by the subject teacher. Two units will be assessed externally by Pearson.

Financial information

Memory stick, course polo shirt, sports kit, stationery. Trips and visits will incur additional costs.

Future opportunities

This course gives you a sound base to progress to a Level 3 course or to pursue employment in the sport and leisure industry.

Many past students have obtained employment or an apprenticeship in a range of sport and leisure facilities. Many have progressed to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or other level 3 courses at Strode College.
