Work Preparation for Engineering Diploma Level 1 at Derwentside College

Course description

The qualification ensures that the candidate has basic practical as well as theoretical knowledge of Engineering in the Fabrication/Welding /Mechanical and Electrical pathways.

The qualification also has bespoke Employability units which include CV writing, applying for jobs, Equality and Diversity.

Course content

  • Preparing learners for the world of work in Engineering 
  • Preparing learners for further, work-related study
  • Ensure learners have an understanding of values and attitudes relevant to employment in Engineering

Entry requirements

To join a Level 1 course you will need either an Entry Level 3 qualification or GCSEs at Grades E/F.


Internal assessments form an integral part of the unit syllabus and take the form of practical and knowledge exercises.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course learners could progress onto either a level 2 Study Programme in Engineering or an Intermediate Apprenticeship Career Opportunities
