Painting and Decorating Level 2 Diploma at Chichester College

Course description

If you want to build on your Level 1 skills and train for a practical, creative job in the construction industry then this painting and decorating course could be the one for you. Our experienced staff will help you gain all the knowledge and basic practical painting and decorating skills which are required by employers. It will also provide you with all the theory relating to preparing, painting and wallpapering using a range of techniques on different surfaces to create different effects.

Course content

You will cover a range of different practical and theory modules on the course including Brush and Roller Applications, Wallpaper Hanging, Spray Painting, Decorative Effects, Construction Technology and Health & Safety. The course covers the standards as set by the awarding body and training will ensure you have the skills to the level required by industry. We look for real projects for students to work so you can develop your practical skills in practical situations where possible. If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main Painting and Decorating course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and maths as well work experience . Through your tutorial programme you will also develop personal and work related skills which will help prepare you for full time work after you have finished your full time training in college. 

Entry requirements

You will need to have achieved a Level 1 Diploma in Painting and Decorating and passed an aptitude test before progressing to this course. You also need to have an interest in painting, decorating, colour and design, be good at managing your time and take a pride in producing accurate work.


Assessments for theory will be tested with both on line and paper based versions of exams set by the awarding body. Practical tests will workshop based to set time scales and specified tolerances.

Further information

Our recently built, state-of-the-art Construction Technologies Centre
has a workshop dedicated to painting and decorating courses. All hand
tools and materials are supplied for training. We have a great range of
cafes, sports facilities, student union activities and open access areas.
Practical requires dedicated work wear overalls (White) they can
be:Trousers, Bib & Brace or Boiler suit. Safety steel cap footwear to an
acceptable British standard. Note book pen& pencils
