Mathematics at Rushcliffe School

Course description

The A and AS level comprise pure and applied mathematics in the ratio 2 to 1. For the full A level, three units are assessed in the summer of the first year and three in the final summer.

At AS level the content of the pure mathematics unit includes algebra, functions, co-ordinate geometry, calculus, sequences, series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms. The applied mathematics is Mechanics 1 which includes modeling, motion, forces, momentum, Newton’s laws of motion and connected particles.

At A2 level the pure mathematics develops and extends what has already been studied but also includes some vector geometry and numerical methods. The second applied unit is Statistics 1 which covers such ideas as binomial distribution, normal distribution, correlation and regression.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade C or above including English and a B grade in Maths
