Dance A level at Carlton Academy
A-level Dance is a dynamic qualification which encourages students to develop their creative and intellectual capacity, alongside transferable skills such as team working, communication and problem solving. All of these are sought after skills by higher education and employers and will help them stand out in the workplace whatever their choice of career. This specification reflects both historical and current dance practices, making it more relevant, and inspires a lifelong passion and appreciation for dance.
A-level Dance aims to cultivate creativity in students by allowing individual enquiry within the areas of performance, choreography and critical engagement with professional repertoire through both practical and written responses. Students participate in; a weekly technique class to develop their physical skills; group performance and choreographic workshops; in-depth study of professional dance works and dance practitioners.
Candidates must have a genuine interest in all aspects of dance performance and choreography; they must have a desire to study the historical, cultural and social context of dance. Candidates must have a real desire to perform; you will be expected to put in a considerable amount of study time, both in lessons and through independent rehearsal, due to the nature of the course and to fulfil content. Candidates must have English GCSE to access the written paper.
Choreographer, Community Dance Practitioner, Costume/Set Designer, Dance Performer, Dance/ Arts Officer, Dance Education Specialist, Dance Film Maker, Dance Movement Therapist, Dance Journalist, Dance Lecturer or Academic Researcher, Dance Photographer, Dance Project Coordinator or Administrator, Dance Producer, Dance Teacher, Lighting Designer/Technical Production Management Specialist to name a few potential career choices!
