Sport BTEC Level 3 Diploma at Barnet and Southgate College

Course description

Post -16 students who want to go on to further study and who have an academic interest in Sport and/or those wanting a career in the sports industry. BTEC Level 3 Diploma in sport is designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for successful employment in sport and recreation industries. It also prepares you for employment or higher education. It would be advantageous to have previous experience playing competitive sport.

Course content

Applicants will cover a variety of subjects based around sport, ranging from anatomy and physiology, health and safety, leading and coaching, and dealing with injuries. Applicants will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of the curriculum. Every student will be attached to an academy relevant to their sporting preference. This course covers topics such as : assessing risks in sports, psychology for sports performance, sports nutrition , sports as a business and sport and exercise massage . You will also be able to take part in sports training , work placements and study short industry relevant qualifications.

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to have 5 GCSES grades A*-C including, English, Maths & preferably PE. One of which must be a grade B. Applicants with a BTEC Level 2 Award in sports require a distinction with English and maths at minimum grade C. Applicants with BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in sport require a merit with grade C in English and maths.


Coursework & written timed assessments, vivas, presentations and practical activites .

Future opportunities

Foundation degree in sports science, sports development and coaching and/or sports studies.
