Creative Writing at East Leake Academy

Course description

Ideally suited to students who are creative, enjoy independent work and who want to develop a range of technical writing skills. This offers an opportunity for an additional qualifi cation to compliment a student’s other choices. It is a highly regarded subject that is taught at degree level.

AS Creative Writing
The course will involve reading and writing in a variety of forms: prose fi ction, poetry, script-writing, journalistic articles, persuasive writing, reviews and creative non-fi ction. Students will be encouraged to experiment with their writing and build up a portfolio that covers the range of writing forms. They will develop a skill that all professional writers require: writing to order and meeting tight deadlines.

Students will be required to sit a terminal examination of 2 hours duration and complete 2 pieces of creative writing and a refl ective commentary.

A2 Creative Writing
The course allows students to develop their writing by reading and analysing the authorial craft of other writers. They will apply their learning to their own writing and refl ect upon the writing process. The course encourages independent study and includes an individualised writing project that can be regularly redrafted and reviewed.

Students will be required to sit a terminal examination of 3 hours duration and complete coursework based on a form of writing chosen by the student.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths.
