Chemistry AS/A Level (OCR) at Benton Park School

Course description

Chemistry is the study of the elements and their compounds. This course will build on the chemical ideas and concepts introduced in GCSE Additional Science. It is a science subject, so practical work is an important part of the course.

Entry requirements

Candidates must have achieved at least a grade B in GCSE Chemistry or Core and Additional Science both at grade B (with a minimum of grade B in C1 and C2)

Mathematics Grade B








AS Qualification:

4 modules to be studied, 2 exams 1h 30 minute each worth 50% of final grade.

Full A Level Qualification

6 modules to be studies, 3 exams, 2 are 2h 15 minutes, 1 is 1 h 30 miniutes worth 37%, 37% and £6% respectively.

A seperate certificate for the practical ensirsement will be issued on successful completion of investigative work.

Future opportunities

Due to the demands of completing an A Level in chemistry, this can be used for entrance to many careers and degree options including careers in Science (industry and research) in Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Intercalated degrees such as biochemistry, biomedical science, molecular medicine, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, forensic science to name a few.
