Land and Wildlife (Countryside and Game) Level 3 at Askham Bryan College
The course is delivered by a dedicated team of tutors with industry experience and close relationships with employers, landowners and estates allowing students to gain practical experience and carry out ecological studies and to practise their estate skills. We have good access to upland, moorland, lowland, wetland, forest and river habitats. Our location means we can easily access the coast as well as areas such as the North York Moors National Park.

• Grouse moor keepering
• Lowland pheasant and partridge shooting (where applicable)
• Ecological survey
• Experience aquatic and terrestrial environments
• Digital mapping and GPS technology
• Financial and environmental aspects of estate management
• Legal aspects of countryside management
• Work experience
• English and maths provision where applicable
Opportunity to specialise in game management or environmental management in the final year (dependent on student numbers)
Whilst on the course students have the opportunity to gain practical experience on the College's estates and on adjoining estates. The land at Westfield Farm and Home Farm, York are both available to Countryside Management students for ecological studies and as a place to put into practice what they have learned in the classroom, such as estate skills and habitat management.
Level 3 Study Programmes:
4 GCSEs at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above to include 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2
Ongoing assessment through assignment work and formal controlled assessments where applicable.
