Media Studies A Level at Samuel Ryder Academy

Course description

Our examination results have been consistently high for years and we achieve highly compared to the national average which reflects the excellence of the teachers involved. Several of our student’s work has been retained by the exam board as exemplars for training examiners.

Quite a few of our past students have gone on to exciting careers in the media world, working for renowned institutions such as Madam Tussauds and The Guardian.

Media Studies is both an academic and a practical subject at A-Level, and you will be able to further develop your written skills to a high level. However, you will also be able to develop some excellent computer skills and explore the potential of new technologies such as your iPhone. You will also learn how to make magazines look professional; create a website for a band or artiste you create as well as film and TV. All of which will provide you with a number of exciting opportunities that will help equip you for life in a new media world.

Entry requirements

A minimum of five GCSE grades A* to C including English and Mathematics is required in addition to the subject specific requirements for those subjects intended for study at Advanced Level or BTEC.

Candidates are also invited to attend an interview. On the basis of their interviews and in the case of external applications, a report from their current school is also required. An offer of a conditional place may then be made but the offer remains provisional until the students’ results are known.

C grade at GCSE English and an interest in the media and the technologies that create the products.

To continue onto the A2 course a D grade or above at AS is required.
