Music AS/A2 Level at Chichester High School for Girls
Unit 1:PERFORMING MUSIC: 5 - 6 minutes as asoloist and/or part of an ensemble – anyinstrument/any voice.
Unit 2:COMPOSING: Create a 3 minute piece.Write a CD programme note describing aspectsof the composition and the influences of othermusic on it.
Unit 3:DEVELOPING MUSICAL UNDERSTANDING
Listening to familiar music and understanding how it works.
SectionA: Listening to extracts of music played and answerquestions about features heard.
Section B: Investigating musical styles. Both these sectionsrequire study of works from an Anthology.
Section C: Understanding Chords and Lines – identifyingharmonic and tonal features.
Unit 4:EXTENDED PERFORMANCE: 12 - 15 minutesof a balanced programme of music as a soloistand/or as part of an ensemble.
Unit 5:COMPOSITIONANDTECHNICAL STUDY:
SECTION 1 – COMPOSITION:Create a 3 minute composition.
SECTION 2 –TECHNICAL STUDY:Builds on the knowledge and awareness ofharmony gained in Unit 3.
Unit 6:FURTHER MUSICAL UNDERSTANDING:ASSESSED EXTERNALLY:
Listening to music, both familiar and unfamiliar,and understanding how it works.
5 GCSs at grade C or above with a grade B in Music.
Performing skills need to be at the standard of Grade 5 forAS level, and Grade 6 for A2.
