Mathematics at King Charles I School

Course description

For this kind of course, it is essential that the student keeps right up to date. The first term is spent studying all aspects of algebra and graphs, increasing skills in their manipulation and application. After this, there is an introduction to elementary calculus and an extension of the trigonometry learnt in Year 11.

It is hard work, not least because the standard for Advanced Level requires a more mature, determined and flexible approach, and a commitment to work. There is a great satisfaction to be gained in tackling and overcoming problems. The "eureka" feeling is great!... but it doesn’t come without effort for most people.

Entry requirements

To take this subject a student must have a firm foundation of understanding up to GCSE level, preferably achieving grade B or better.

The recommendation of the student’s GCSE teacher is also taken into account.
