Health and Social Care Level 3 Apprenticeship at Basingstoke College of Technology

Course description

This qualification provides evidence of competence and knowledge in delivering care within a range of clinical healthcare settings. This apprenticeship will suit job roles in the health sector such as;healthcare support worker/healthcare assistant working in clinical services e.g. medical, surgical, critical care, outpatients, community and A&E and look after the well-being and comfort of patients. They may have a supervisory role.

Course content

This Apprenticeship programme is made up of the following five components:

Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Competence)

Mandatory units include:

  • The Role of The Health and Social Care Worker 
  • Promote Person Centred Approaches in Health and Social Care 
  • Engage in Personal Development in Health, Social Care


Optional units include:

  • Support Families who Have a Child With a Disability Emergency First-Aid Skills 
  • Undertake Physiological Measurements Administer Medication to Individuals  

Monitor the Effects

Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (Knowledge)

Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths

Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS

Entry requirements

An initial Telephone interview is required also you must be age 17+, and working a minimum of 30 hours in clinical setting. English and maths GCSE A-C are preferable. This is a work-orientated qualification, and is suitable for those who are employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week, and undertake health and social care activities.


The development of a portfolio of evidence demonstrating knowledge and competency in practice. Methods of assessment used are direct observation, professional discussion, oral and written questioning, work products and witness testimonies.

Financial information

If you are aged 16-18, tuition and registration fees are free. 
If you are aged 19 or over, tuition and registration fees are payable at the start of each year of study; please ask for details.
If you are aged 24 or over, you may be eligible for a Student Loan to assist with your fees; please ask for details.

Future opportunities

Following your course you can move onto Nurse training, employment or continue to study.
