Art and Design OCR Level 3 National Certificate at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman

Course description

The OCR National Certificate in Art and Design Level 3 is a vocational course taught in years 12 and 13. This is a 6 unit vocational course over 2 years. The course is designed to help students learn how to develop projects based on realistic or real life briefs.

Course content

Over the 2 year period, students will gain a better understanding of how designers and artists work in their professional practice. They will learn how to adapt to specific client requirements and constraints such as deadlines, time management and budget. The course is also aimed to enhance creative skills in a range of 2D (dry and wet media, photography) and 3D media (ceramics, resistant materials and textiles). During the second year in particular, the units of work will allow students to study within specialist fields within art and design, such as Fashion and Photography.


Pupils are assessed on a Pass, Merit or Distinction basis. Pass (40 UCAS points), Merit (80 UCAS points), Distinction (120 UCAS points).

Future opportunities

After completion, students can progress to a foundation or university course.
