Course description

The course enables students to gain a clearer understanding of the ways in which we communicate with society and it communicates with us. In A2, the subject broadens out to focus upon cultural theory (Market Liberalism, Marxism, Feminism, Post-modernism, Post-colonialism) and cultural sites (Fictions, Objects of Desire, Places and Spaces). The lecturer who delivers the course is currently a Communication and Culture examiner with AQA, giving her an excellent understanding of the requirements for the course. She studied critical theory and culture at university level as part of her degree and postgraduate qualifications in literature. To be a successful student in Communication and Culture requires a range of skills including an interest in culture and society, solid essay writing skills, an inquisitive mind and a flair for creativity. There will be opportunities for students to contextualise what they learn in class through trips to cultural sites, for example, the Tate Modern, The Globe Theatre and Bankside, London.
