Connect 2 Entry Level 1 at Newbury College

Course description

Connect 2 is a 1 year full time course for learners with profound and multiple learning difficulties and physical disabilities. All learners have at least 1:1 support throughout the college day which starts at 10.00 and finishes at 2.30. The course runs for 36 weeks.

Assessment is by way of individual learning goals which are set half-termly and monitored on a daily basis. Connect 2 learners also access accredited learning such as the City & Guilds Award in Personal Progress at Entry Level 1.

Learner progress will be reviewed at regular intervals throughout the year.

Communication books allow us to keep in daily contact with parents and carers advising them of their young person's learning achievements, what they've had to eat and drink and details of any medication administered. Parents can also share news and progress at home with us so that we can gain a full picture of each learner.

Learners access hydrotherapy at least once every fortnight. Our weekly timetable also includes music, shopping for ingredients, cooking, independent living skills, gardening, drama and art. Most of these activities take place within the inclusive setting of the college in both specialised classrooms and shared areas. We also aim to access as many activities within the local community as we can and this year we will be taking part in Riding for the Disabled, climbing, canoeing and archery.

Students take part in on-site work experience activities such as working in the refectory, catering for a college event and selling produce made or grown.
