Public Services BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Southport College

Course description

This course will provide you with a foundation for effective performance across a broad spectrum of public service careers. It has been specifically designed to prepare you for a career in a public or an emergency service. You will also develop an awareness of the discipline, fitness and skills necessary for public services careers.

Course content

You will learn about a range of subject areas, including: 
Government, Policies and the Public Services
Leadership and Teamwork in the Public Services
Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services
Understanding Discipline in the Uniformed Public Services
Fitness Testing and Training for the Uniformed Public Services
Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
Employment in the Uniformed Public Services
Planning and Management of Major incidents
Communication and Technology in the Uniformed Public Services
Understand the impact of War, Conflict and Terrorism on Public Services

Entry requirements

Minimum 5 GCSEs at A*- C including English and maths or Merit in a related Level 2 Diploma and C or above in English and maths
Successful interview 
Satisfactory reference 

Assessment

You will be continuously assessed throughout the course through a series of assignments.

Financial information

Students will attend a wide range of Outdoor Activities, Visits and Residentials as part of the course and will be asked to pay a one off payment of £120 at the start of the course as a contribution towards the costs.

Students may purchase a course text book to use for independent study

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course, you may progress on to further study at university level, on to courses such as Police & Criminal Investigations, Criminology, Psychology, Outdoor Pursuits, Law and Sport. You may also progress in to employment in roles within public services, including: Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Fire Service, Ambulance Service and Police Force.
