Photography Level 3 Diploma at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course is a practical course which will give you all the technical and creative knowledge you will need to either start a career in photography or go on to higher study.

Course content

You will study the following mandatory units: • Visual Recording in Art and Design • Materials, Techniques, and Processes in Art and Design • Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design • Communication Through Art and Design • Contextual Influences in Art and Design Followed by a range of optional units which will allow you to explore a wide range of photographic skills and techniques.

You will learn about both traditional and digital photography whilst exploring both studio and location photography. The first year will give you a broad set of skills which will be used to develop a more personal portfolio in the second year. All LMC students will receive tutorial support. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and maths OR a Level 2 related qualification. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, coursework, assignments, portfolio presentation, exam/online test and practical performance.

Financial information

Students will be required to make a contribution towards trips and special events. Also students will be expected to pay £30.00 at the start of the course. There will be weekly costs of approx. £5.00 for materials needed for producing work and preparing portfolios therefore you will need to bring money to purchase art materials and/or photocopies on a daily basis. As the course progresses you would benefit from owning your own digital camera. This is not necessary to start the course. For up to date information on course fees please call 0800 306306.

Future opportunities

The course can lead on to employment or onto a higher education course at HND, Foundation Degree or Degree Level. Your tutors will help you with progression opportunities.
