Law A Level at Vision West Nottinghamshire College
Law shapes our lives in a variety of ways. It sets the terms of our employment, provides protection from harm, and grants compensation for injury.
In this course you will be exposed to a variety of teaching methods. Guest speakers have been arranged to come and relate their experience to you, providing first-hand knowledge of law practices and the current issues facing those working within the legal profession. Visits to see courts in action are planned to take place.
The core modules of the A Level course will include law making and the legal system, the concept of liability and an in-depth study of criminal law, concentrating on offences against the person and property offences. Study also extends to cover the law of tort and concepts of law, which encompasses legal theory. Case studies will be used to link the theory to real life, giving you practical experience that is useful for a range of sectors and progression to university-level study. You can expect to develop your skills in strategic thinking and logic as you progress on the course.
Five GCSEs with at least 4 points (grade C) including: English language with 5 points (grade B), maths and a humanities subject such as history, geography or law.
You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course.
This course is assessed solely by examination, with exams scheduled for May/June.
A qualification in law is useful in many different industries and for a wide variety of job types. Options would include the police, prison service, probation and social services, legal secretary, legal accounts or work within HR, administration or marketing.
The A Level would be the first step towards becoming a solicitor or a barrister with further study at university level.
