Mathematics A Level at Twynham School
The main focus of this A Level is Pure Mathematics. Covering topics which tend to be mainly algebraic in nature, students develop their understanding of these concepts and improve their logical reasoning skills so they can begin to solve challenges that occur frequently in modern day life. As the course develops, the topics become increasingly related to real life and it becomes clearer how these powerful new techniques can be related to industry and the financial world.
Other branches of Mathematics studied are Statistics, Mechanics and Decision. These applied topics have a more specific, but equally important, relevance to life.
The flexibility of this modular A Level means that you could finish up with an A Level Mathematics which specialises in Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Mathematics or a combination of these, depending on your choice of modules.
Consists of two modules in Pure Mathematics and one in Statistics, Mechanics or Decision Mathematics.
To achieve an A Level Mathematics qualification at the end of your second year, you will need to complete another three modules in addition to the ones studied for AS. These will include two modules in Pure Mathematics and another ‘applied’ module in Statistics, Mechanics or Decision Mathematics. The A level qualification will therefore consists of 6 modules in total, four of which being Pure Mathematics modules.
Essential Entry Requirements:

- A minimum of 4 ‘B’ grades and 2 ‘C’ grades to include C or above in English and Mathematics
