The Cambridge Technical course provides opportunities to develop skills demanded by employers. Learners will have the opportunity to acquire the essential knowledge and tools for the world of work by developing transferable skills such as planning, research and analysis, working with others and effective communication.
Year1 - 3 units
Communication and employability skills for IT
Communication is a vital skill for any individual. The effective use of communication and flexibility of styles is a highly desirable attribute to employers to maintain good working practice. This unit identifies the principles for effective communication and introduces learners to the interpersonal skills and attributes required within a work place.
The purpose of this unit is to demonstrate the information organisations hold and how this is valuable to an organisation. The learner will discover that if systems are in place, and information held is correct then the communication within the organisation is a powerful tool and can give any organisation a competitive edge.
Students will create, modify and manipulate images after learning about the hardware and software available for working on graphic images and the file formats that exist. Students will be able to use the hardware and software to create, modify and manipulate images to meet clients’ requirements.
Year 2 - 3 Units
A further 3 units will be studied. These have yet to be decided upon. Examples of potential units are:
Interactive media authoring.
This is used for a variety of different purposes, to name a few; e-books, single user games, edutainment material, presentations, and museum touch screen information kiosks. This unit focuses primarily on the creation of interactive media products. Learners will study the principles of interactive media authoring before planning and creating their own product.
Understanding Mobile Technology
Students need to appreciate the scope of mobile technology, beyond personal and social use and the fundamentals of how it works, the options and operating systems on which it can be used and also the benefits it provides.
This unit will allow learners to understand the different types of animation that are designed and created in industry for different mediums.
This unit will prepare learners to design, create and test a fully functioning website, while also providing essential grounding knowledge on the architecture, design and security issues that need to be considered.
The course will be taught through a mixture of theoretical and practical work. Outside speakers will be invited in to share their knowledge and experience of IT in the workplace. Students will produce individual pieces of work but there will be opportunities to work as part of a group.
Yr12: Grade B in GCSE ICT
Yr13: Grade D in AS ICT
