Beauty Therapy Techniques Level 2 Diploma at Exeter College
On this course you will cover the theory and practice of some core services provided in a beauty salon.
There are practical and theoretical classes which will help each student develop a portfolio of evidence for verification. There is some case study/project work. Practical skills are developed on fellow students - once a level of competence is reached clients are to be used for assessment.
Balance of course 40% theory/60% practical.
You will study the following technical and core units:
- Provide facial skin care
- Remove hair using waxing techniques
- Provide manicure treatments
- Provide pedicure treatments
- Apply make up
- Provide lash and brow treatments
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
- Working in beauty related industries
- Follow health and Safety practice in the salon
- Client Care and communication
- Promote products and services
- Salon Reception duties
You need four GCSEs at Grade D or above including Science and Maths at D+, and English at C+, or a Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector qualification to include Functional Skills in English and Maths.
You will be assessed practically, theoretically and orally in all areas. Testimonials may be required as evidence in some areas. Complete portfolios are verified and should include assessment books, case studies, projects, and theoretical papers. Some units have external on line test papers.
You will need a personal kit and uniform. There is an option to purchase a make up kit (which is not a course requirement) either separately or with the main kit at a reduced fee. You are responsible for providing your own working resources and sundries.
You can work within the industry for a cosmetic company or in a beauty salon or clinic. Alternatively, you may progress to the Beauty Therapy or Spa Therapy at Level 3.
