Mathematics A level at Wadham School
You will need to be highly self-motivated and have a clear idea of why you want to do this challenging course. You must be willing to ask questions and prepared to act upon advice given. You must be resilient and resourceful.
Higher tier GCSE Grade B or higher for A’ level Maths. At least AS Grade B in Maths for AS Further Maths. You will be required to complete a “GCSE to A Level” Bridging Unit once you have registered an interest in studying maths at Wadham. This will need to be completed by your first AS maths lesson.
Exam Board – AQA
Maths: 6 modules over two years; MPC1, MPC2, MS1B are AS modules, MPC3, MPC4 and MM1B are A2 modules. All are equally weighted and carry 100 UMS marks.
Further Maths: 3 modules over one year (Year 13) to include MFP1 and a choice of two others not including those already mentioned above.
Maths at A-level provides a number of opportunities. Many jobs, and employers, such as those in the fields below, prize a mathematical education very highly. Indeed, according to some recent reports, Maths graduates earn, on average, thousands of pounds more each year than graduates of other disciplines do.
