Geography A Level at Benfield School
Geography encompasses a diverse range of fascinating topics which allow us to understand the world and the people in it and why they are this way. Geography has something for everyone, being composed of two distinct disciplines: Human Geography (the study of people) and Physical Geography (the study of the environment).
It not only covers a broad range of interestingcontent but this course will allow you to develop many crucial ski8lls in information collection (primary and secondary research), data analysis and presentation, essay and report writing, independent study and group work.
Many of the students who study Geography go to university after Sixth Form to study for a degree. Geography can help your career either directly or indirectly. Career opportunities are broad as Geography covers a wide range of skills and content which can be applied in a range of job sectors fro the Energy Industry, Manufacturing, Town Planning and Risk Management in Insurance to Teaching, Research, National Park Rangers and Marketing. Skills developed through Geography are vital within University education and for employers in a competitive job market.
These skills will prepare you for the next stage of study and many are recognised as essential by industry if you choose to enter employment after Sixth Form. Over the two year course, you will cover three units: Human Geography, Physical Geography and a Geographical Investigation. Units include topics such as: Water and Carbon Cycles, Hazards, Coasts, Changing Places, Urban Environments and Global Systems and Governance.
An A-Level in Geography is complimentary to a range of other disciplines such as History, Sociology, Psychology and Biology.
