Site Carpentry City and Guilds Level 1 Diploma at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College

Course description

This course will enable learners to gain an insight into basic carpentry techniques and skills.

Course content

The study programme is designed for students who work or want to work as a carpenter or joiner in the construction sector. It allows students to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in carpentry or joinery.The course covers the following work skills and job knowledge: producing basic woodworking joints, safely using various hand and power tools, principles of building construction, information and communication and Health & Safety and welfare in construction.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements are ideally GCSE Grade D or above and through initial diagnostic assessment. Learners will also have to attend an interview with a member of the construction team.

Assessment

Assessment is via completion of coursework and portfolio and awarding body set examinations.

Financial information

Learners will have to provide their own stationery equipment and safety footwear.

We offer a bursary that students can apply for help with costs that are associated with a course. This could be help with the cost of travel, books, materials, equipment, uniforms, childcare and examination and registration fees. Future opportunities

Successful completion of the course could lead onto the Diploma Level 2 Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery. You must have a positive attitude towards your learning, have a good attendance rate and display excellent behaviour.NVQ Level 2 Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery if you are working in the industry and meeting the set criteria.

Further information

Three full days per week. You must attend all elements of the study programme including English, Maths, tutorials and work experience, the expectation is 95%.
