Applied Science BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma Level 3 at The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London

Course description

If you want a course in applied science this course is ideal. You will study credits for the Extended Diploma.

The Diploma qualification is equivalent to two A Levels and the Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels.On this practical, work-related course you will gain a broad knowledge base for a range of careers in many areas of science.  

You will study units such as : fundamentals of science, working in the science industry, scientific investigation, scientific practical techniques, perceptions of science, application of number for science technicians. 

Then you will choose units specialising in: mathematics for science technicians, statistics for science technicians, using science in the workplace, physiology of human body systems, physiology of human regulation and reproduction, biochemical techniques, energy changes, sources and applications, microbiological techniques, chemistry for biology technicians, electrical circuits and their industrial applications, genetics and genetic engineering, practical chemical analysis, medical physics techniques, biomedical science techniques, chemical laboratory techniques, principles of plant and soil science, industrial applications of chemical reactions, chemical periodicity and its applications, industrial applications of organic chemistry.

Course content

You will be taught through lectures, practical investigations, videos, role-plays and field visits.

You will carryout classroom activities that are based on workplace scenarios.

Entry requirements

You will need Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Diploma - 5 GCSEs at grade A*- C (including science) or Level 2 BTEC Diploma Merit in Applied Science at pass grade or a related subject.


You will be assessed continuously, through classroom presentations, written assignments and practical reports. You will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities to introduce you to the different science related career options.

You could progress to employment or university to study a wide range of courses.
