Art & Design BTEC Level 1 Introduction Certificate at Riverside College Halton

Course description

This course will introduce you to a broad range of art & design skills in a range of specialist areas including textiles, pottery, graphic design, painting and drawing and photography. You will create items such as woven wall hangings, ceramic pots, posters and prints.

Course content

This course is designed for students who enjoy working creatively in a friendly and dynamic environment, using a wide range of materials and media such as painting, drawing, textiles and photography. You will have the opportunity to visit a number of local art galleries to develop your knowledge of different artistic styles.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade E or above including English or maths


All students will be required to produce first hand coursework for each module, which will be kept in a portfolio. Assessment objectives will be explained and work will be regularly marked and reviewed. Feedback will be given on a one to one basis. You will also be required to produce supporting studies sketchbooks, critical study and art history notebooks.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto a BTEC Art Foundation Studies course to develop your portfolio or you may gain entry onto a BA Hons degree in Art and Design, Advertising, Architecture, Fashion and Textiles, Interior Design or Teaching. Following this you could enter employment in an art related area such as an art gallery or in marketing.

There will be a studio fee of £30 per year to cover materials.
