Religious Studies at Bellerive FCJ Catholic College

Course description

AS Level

* Religion and Ethics - Students will be made aware of ethical theories and how to analyse and apply these to real life situations. These include Utilitarianism & Situation Ethics and how these can be applied to issues such as Abortion and Euthanasia.

* Religion, Philosophy and Science - Students follow three units; the creation of the universe, belief in the design argument and to what extent miracles prove the existence of God.

A2 Level

* Religion and Ethics - A2 enables candidates to study in greater depths aspects of, Libertarianism, Freewill and Determinism, Virtue Ethics; religious views on sexual behaviour and human relationships and Science and Technology. Candidates will be building on the foundation of AS and will progress to show awareness of differing views on topics and issues studied.

* Religious Experience - Students are made aware of what a religious experience is and what forms this may take - vision, revelation, conversion and mysticism. Students are guided through scientific examinations that show the authenticity of a religious experience.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including at least grade C in Religious Studies
