Spanish A level at Edgbarrow School
The course allows students to develop a wide range of skills to a high level ranging from communication to research and analysis. Our students are given opportunities to study social and cultural topics in Spanish whilst building on their fluency.
We aim to equip our students to achieve the following:
• Understand a variety of texts and film.
• Speak and write with an impressive range of structure and style.
• Gain insight into aspects of Spanish civilisation & literature.
A wide range of skills are developed during the course. Students will build on research skills and will use these to explore cultural topics, through the study of a film, set text and topical issues. They will build on their communication. Independent learning is an essential part of this course and students are encouraged to read articles, listen to news and watch film independently. Students are given opportunities to participate in visits abroad and have one-to-one sessions with a foreign language assistant.

The study of a foreign language enhances job opportunities in our globalised world and its importance must not be ignored, particularly as a secondary skill. Many students go on to university to study diverse subjects with a language, e.g. business, economics, law, engineering and chemistry. A student who has studied a language at A Level finds him/herself increasingly valued by future employers. It can also be a springboard for the study of other languages. Studying a language opens doors to all sorts of careers – whether in this country or abroad.
