Sociology A Level at Titus Salt School

Course description

Sociology is an exciting academic option that helps students to see the world from a different point of view by questioning how groups relate to each other and asking why events develop in the way they do. Students have the opportunity in lessons to explore new ideas through discussion and to express their own views through short and longer written responses. It is a subject that works well with the other social sciences of Psychology/Health and Social Care, Humanities and English. Students will follow the new AQA specification introduced in 2015 with assessment through three examinations at the end of year 13. There will be an opportunity to assess progress at the end of year with two examinations on topics covered in year 12; these will be re-visited in year 13. Topics studied over the two years include research methods; sociological perspectives; families and households; education; values and beliefs, crime and deviance.
