Course description

The 90 Credit Diploma in Business is a vocational qualification designed to give students a fully rounded business education by combining theoretical study with practical application. This specialist business course will provide a strong grounding in a variety of business specialism’s and develop both individual and team working skills - highly valued by employers and universities.

Course content

The 90 Credit Diploma covers a range of subject areas including Business enterprise, Business administration, Finance, Teamwork and Communication. You will develop practical skills and technical understanding through a unique blend of components of general and applied learning. The business units covered are: 1. The Business Environment 2. Business Resources 3. Introduction to Marketing 4. Business Communication 5. Business Accounting 6. Creative Product Promotion 7. Recruitment and Selection in Business 8. Developing Teams in Business 9. Aspects of contract and business law. You will master the skills and processes central to business and entrepreneurship by learning how to think, question, explore, create and communicate, enabling you to bring your ideas to life. It will enable you to become critical thinkers, effective communicators and creative practitioners. Much of the activity will be assignment or project based through which you will bring together different disciplines and develop your practical skills and experience. The course is ideal for students who wish to develop a broad understanding of the business sector, allowing the opportunity to specialise as you progress on to higher education and your business career.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A*-C or equivalent, including a C or above in English Language.


All units are assessed and graded by tutors. and overall grade for the qualification is awarded to all learners who successfully complete all units. Pass, Merit or Distinction grades are awarded. There are no external examinations.

Future opportunities

BTEC 90 Credit Diplomas are valued by employers and lead to career opportunities in business specialisms such as finance, human resources, management or marketing, as well as other business-related careers. Learners may also progress within employment to professional qualifications such as those offered by the Chartered Institutes of Marketing, Management Accountants and Personnel Development. Alternatively, students may wish to progress on to the Extended Diploma in Business course or other relevant qualifications.
