Course description

The course for you if you are looking for an introduction to construction skills and want to gain basic skills and knowledge across a number of trade occupations to discover exactly where your talents lie.

Course content

This Entry Level Diploma in Construction Skills is a multi-skilled programme, which has been designed around the needs of individuals with little construction experience. The course has a mix of both practical and theory learning and you will gain skills and knowledge from the following trade occupations:

  • Bricklaying
  • Carpentry
  • Joinery
  • Painting and Decorating
  • Plastering

Study units include: Basic health & safety; Basic and good working practices; Applying wallpapers/paint finishes; Producing woodworking joints and products; Applying plaster finishes; Brickwork skills and underpinning knowledge.

Entry requirements

The College does not set entry requirements for this qualification, but staff will discuss your potential to gain the qualification successfully at the course interview.


You will be assessed via an assignment for each unit of the course.

Future opportunities

You could progress onto further study at TMC, such as a Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying, Painting & Decorating, Plastering, Plumbing or Site Carpentry.
