Course description

What will I learn?

Chemistry is the study of matter and its interactions with other matter and energy. Understanding chemistry helps you to understand the world around you. Cooking is chemistry. Everything you can touch or taste or smell is a chemical. When you study chemistry, you come to understand about how things work.

To support the new linear qualifications both AS and A level Chemistry has been split into 3 common areas of Chemistry:

Organic Chemistry
Topics such as: Synthesis, alcohols, nomenclature, reaction mechanisms
and chemical analysis.

Inorganic Chemistry
Topics such as: Periodicity, the halogens and the alkaline earth metals.

Physical Chemistry
Topics such as: Thermodynamics, kinetics, energetics and equilibria. 

Entry requirements

Students must have a minimum of 5 A*-C GCSE qualifications including English and Maths and they are required to have two Science GCSE qualifications at a minimum of
Grade B.
