Sport Level 2 BTEC Diploma at Accrington and Rossendale College

Course description

This course is for you if you are seeking to study areas in sport that include sports coaching, development and fitness and are involved with regular sporting activity.

This one year full-time programme is an alternative route to gaining the equivalent of four GCSEs. Achievement can be at Award, equivalent to one GCSE, Certificate, equivalent to two GCSEs, or Diploma, equivalent to four GCSEs.

Additional courses will be studied alongside the duration of the Level 2 Diploma, such as, NCFE Principles and Preparation for Coaching, Key Skills and various coaching badges.

This course offers you the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge in Sport through exploring topics in groups and as an individual, both in College and through additional activities. Assessment is on-going throughout the course via coursework which you build into a portfolio.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade D or above (including English & Maths) or a Level 1 qualification in Sport.


A mixture of assessments will be used including coursework, presentation, practical assessments but no exams.

Financial information

This course is free of charge for 16 – 18 year olds. There may be an additional cost for trips and equipment but this will be disclosed prior to starting your course.

This course will cost a maximum of £300 for learners aged 19 years old or above. This fee may be reduced or void depending on the individual’s circumstances.

Future opportunities

With successful completion of this course you may want to continue onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport which is the equivalent to 3 A Levels. Alternatively, it provides a good foundation for working life in coaching, fitness centres, local community and outdoor centres.
