Cert. of Personal Effectiveness at Parliament Hill School

Course description

Exam Board: ASDAN Team Leader: Ms C.Elder, Why take it? Pathway? The Certifi cate of Personal Effectiveness is an alternative qualifi cation run through ASDAN. It is run by the Learning Development Department and is a course for students whose teachers recommend that they study Core Science only. Students will be invited to join the course. Quotes from Year 10 ‘I love the course, even the work is good because you get to do a lot of fun activities.’ Assessment % breakdown The assessment of the CoPE qualifi cation is 100% portfolio so would suit students who fi nd exams diffi cult. To gain the certifi cate students need to obtain 12 credits from completing 12 modules of work. Tiers of entry The CoPE qualifi cation has been allocated attainment table points - Level 1 is worth 25 points (equivalent to a GCSE Grade E/F) and Level 2 is worth 46 points (equivalent to a GCSE Grade B). Description of the Course Students will have COPE lessons twice a week and will take part in a wide range of activities and projects designed to develop skills and confi dence. Students gain credits towards the qualifi cation by completing challenges within modules such as Expressive Arts, Sports and Leisure and Work Related Learning. This year COPE students organised a successful Christmas stall to raise money for charity where they made and sold their own jewellery, cakes and cards. Another module of work included a range of activities based around the expressive arts. In this unit students worked with clay to produce an individual sculpture, interviewed a local fashion designer and analysed different examples of how fashion and body image are presented in the media. Events/Trips/ Residential information There are many potential opportunities for trips and activities within the course and also many opportunities to cross credit pieces of work and to work with other curriculum areas.
