Bricklaying Diploma Level 1 at New College Nottingham

Course description

Have you ever sat and watched a building being built and thought that you could turn your hand to the building trade? Do you feel that you have the skills to learn building methods and about construction technology?

Then this course is for you. You will develop a range of basic hand skills and knowledge needed to work in the construction industry.

The building trade is an ever expanding sector, with new housing and mortgage schemes on the horizon the trade is booming and you can be part of it.

Giving you the basics in construction skills, this course will be your starting point for everything you need to know about the skills needed to work in the building trade.

Taking you through the basics, the course will provide you with the initial skills to progress in the bricklaying trade.

Course content

Training at the first purpose-built Civil Engineering Academy in the country, you will be well placed to progress your studies at a campus that allows for specialist training in construction, engineering, highways and road maintenance.

This course has a practical approach, offering a range of units to get you fully ready for working in bricklaying.

Studying units such as; 
Knowledge of information about quantities.  
Carrying out basic blocklaying and bricklaying.  
Carrying out basic cavity walling.  
Contributing to setting out and building basic masonry structures up to damp course level.
Coupled with theory including; carrying out safe working practices in construction, communicating with others, knowledge of building methods and construction technology, this course will stand you in good stead to progress in the bricklaying trade.

Entry requirements

You must have one of the following;

3 GCSEs or equivalent

Successful assessment activities in literacy and numeracy.

If you are over 19 but have industry experience and do not have the necessary qualifications you are welcome to apply and will be considered for interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed by completing a multiple choice paper, a practical assessment and an external online test.
