Welsh A Level at Ysgol Y Strade

Course description

The course is open to all pupils. The will to study literature is essential as well as good oral and written communication skills. The students that study Welsh are seen as language champions in the sixth form and the school.

Course content

CY1: Drama and film studies

CY2: Written course Work

CY3: Twenty-first Century Poems. Grammar.

CY4: Novel and synoptic assessment

CY5: Y Chwedlau, yr Hengerdd a’r Cywyddau

CY6: Synoptic assessment, poetry, prose, creative writing and translation

Entry requirements

Although each student will be considered on an individual basis for entry onto the course it would be beneficial to have grades C or above in Language and Literature.


CY1: Oral examination (¾ hr)

CY2: Opinion, Scripting, Creative writing

CY3: Examination 2hr

CY4: Oral examination (¾hr)

CY5: Examination 1½ hr

CY6: Examination 2 ¼hr
