Level 1 Diploma in Racehorse Care at Northern Racing College

Course description

18 week Residential Foundation Course where you gain your Level 1 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care. This comprises of 12 weeks residential at the college followed by a 6 week work experience with a racehorse trainer. Following this you will then go to work for a racehorse trainer on an Intermediate Apprentice where you will do your Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care. No academic qualifications or previous equine experience are needed.

Course content

You will learn all general stable duties, grooming, feeding, taking up, general care of horses, riding racehorses and riding lessons on the horse simulators.



Entry requirements

No qualifications or previous experience with horses required. 


You will need to have a genuine interest to work with racehorses and enjoy working outdoors and keep yourself fit.

Financial information

The course costs £350 towards food and accommodation for the 12 weeks at college - you can apply for a bursary
