Science with Psychology BTEC level 3 Diploma at Mosslands School - A Technology College
The BTEC Science with Psychology course aims to provide students with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding and apply these where science is used. To enable students to appreciate and evaluate the impact that scientific work has on society and to prepare students for further study on a course in science or in a science-related subject, or for training in a science-related occupation.
The 6 Mandatory units are: Fundamentals of Science - Learners will investigate chemical reactions, the structure and functions of cells, the calorific value of different fuels. Working in the Science Industry - Learners will know how laboratories are designed, how information is stored in and how to work safely in a scientific workplace. Scientific Investigations - The unit is based around working as a research scientist, setting up an idea, testing it and then reporting the findings. Scientific Practical Techniques - The aim of this unit is to enable learners to use a range of practical techniques used in science such as the analysis of substances and the separation of substances. Perceptions of Science - Learners will consider how people, society and the media interact with science, how scientific ideas develop and the ethical/moral issues associated with some scientific advances. Using Mathematical Tools in Science - This unit enables learners to use mathematical tools which are essential for working in a science environment. Optional units can include; Criminal Psychology, Biochemistry, Clinical Psychology, Forensic evidence collection and analysis, Medical Physics techniques, Applications of Forensic Psychology among many others.
At least 5 GCSE grades at C or above, including 2 GCSE Sciences at A*-C or BTEC level 2 extended certificate in Applied Science at Merit or Distinction.
There are no external examinations. A series of assignments will be completed and assessed internally. You will need to be well organised, attend regularly and manage deadlines if you are to succeed in this course.
Students who follow a course in BTEC Science can go on to study at University for a wide range of degree and other HE courses, such as Radiography, Physiotherapy, Sound Engineering, Forensic Science and Biomedical Technician among many others. Studying Science with Psychology at BTEC can lead to careers in Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Medical and Dental technician, Radiography, Physiotherapy and Sport Science and many more.
