Business Extended Certificate Level 2 at Boston College

Course description

This course has been designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in business. It is a vocational course where the learner will learn about business through completion of projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

Course content

The Diploma is taught over a number of units which typically includes: 

- Business enterprise 
- Promoting and Branding 
- Managing Personal Finance 
- Project Management 
- Customer Service 

You will also study functional skills or GCSE English and Math (unless previously attained) which are essential for students wishing to continue in further or higher education or in employment. 

Other courses may be offered alongside the diploma such as Certificate in Financial Studies and employability skills which help you develop, widen your knowledge and ensure the learning experience is diverse and exciting. 

The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory. We include e-learning, one-to-one support, individual learning plans, external visits, events and speakers. 

You will also undertake a period of work experience which will be extremely useful in preparing you for your next steps in either employment or education.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grades D or above (New GCSE grade - 3 or above) including English and Maths (or equivalent), or Functional Skills English and Maths at Level 1 or above. 

Successful completion of Business Administration Level 1 (or a related course) along with the above English and Maths requirements and satisfactory reference may also be acceptable.


You will be assessed using a variety of different methods which include observation, written assessments and discussions with tutor. Two of the units are assessed by an external examination with the remainder being internally assessed at a pass, merit or distinction grade.

Financial information

You will need an A4 folder for your work, pen, pencil and paper. 

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course to a merit or distinction standard along with a good attendance record and positive reference from your tutor could lead to progression on to a Level 3 course. It could also lead to employment or apprenticeship in a business, administration or retail role.
