Children's Care, Learning & Development BTEC Level 2 First Diploma at Grantham College

Course description

Students who achieve Merit/Distinction profiles on all units plus a Level 2 in Functional Skills English will have the opportunity for progression onto either the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning & Development, or gain employment at Level 2 in a childcare setting.

Course content

The BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care, Learning & Development is a one year Full-time Level 2 course aimed at students 16 years old and over, and on successful completion you will be awarded a Level 2 qualification. You will be given the opportunity to develop your skills and an understanding of working with children and young people aged between 0 - 16 years - knowledge of this age range will be gained through participation in a variety of subjects and work placements.

The qualifications are currently being reviewed by CWDC and although the content is expected to remain very similar, prospective students will be updated as soon as details are available. The course comprises of six units of study: Communication with children & adults Keeping children safe Preparing & maintaining environments for childcare Professional development roles & responsibilities in childcare Supporting children's play & learning Understanding children\'s development. The main subjects are enhanced by further studies including Functional Skills (English, Maths and Information Communication Technology) and Food Hygiene. The course is designed for you if you would like a job caring for others. It will prepare you to work in the caring profession including the Early Years sector.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (Grade D or above including English), or equivalent e.g. Level 1 qualification with Merit/Distinction profile.

Assessment

Assignments, observation, practical tests, & completed placement. As part of the assessment, you will need to complete a minimum of 300 hours work experience to achieve the Diploma.

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.
