Physical Education at St Edward's College

Course description

A Level Sport and Physical Education is a course of study that expands on many of the ideas and concepts already encountered within GCSE Physical Education. It also provides a natural progression for candidates by extending their knowledge of skills, techniques and effective performance.


Course content

Through your study of Sport and Physical Education you will develop a range of different skills. You will extend your knowledge and understa ding of a selection of Physical Education activities; you will develop understanding and problem solving skills (interpretation and evaluation). You will also develop planning and practical skills for effective performance and gain an ability to relate practice to theory and theory to practice. Physical Education will also be valuable to you as a means of personal development.

Entry requirements

B grade in GCSE PE, or an A grade in GCSE Short Course PE

B grade equivalent in the theory examination


Two written exam papers at end of Year 13 (2 hours each)
-worth 70% of final grade.

Practical assessment in one activity (on-going video evidence), plus written analysis of performance-worth 30% of final grade.

Future opportunities

Sport and Physical Education could lead to careers in a range of spheres such as Sports Science, Exercise Science, Teaching, Nutrition, Physiotherapy, Armed Forces, Recreation Management and Leisure Management.
