Level 3 in Food Science at Cecil Jones College

Course description

You will gain a great grounding in nutritional science as well as more advanced practical cooking skills. You will learn about how to plan to meet nutritional needs, develop practical food production skills and advanced cooking skills and techniques used in the catering industry. You will gain an understanding of how to eat food safely, and how to use appropriate storage. You will gain skills in experimenting to solve food production problems and applying scientific understanding to issues that can sometimes arise during food production in domestic and industrial settings.

Entry requirements

Five A*-C in any subjects


Each module is internally assessed. The individual unit assessments are a mixture of written and practical tasks.

Future opportunities

This course could lead you into a career as a chef or food manufacturing. You may also decide to go down the path of the hotel or hospitality industry.
