Hairdressing Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at Bishop Auckland College

Course description

Apprenticeships are practical hands on programmes designed to provide you with relevant, practical training, which will enable you to progress within your chosen industry. As an apprentice you will be employed between 30 and 40 hours a week. This Apprenticeship covers all the basics of hairdressing.

As a Hairdressing apprentice, you will work as a salon junior, assisting senior staff while training as a junior stylist. Duties are likely to include booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, drying and styling hair, and mixing and applying hair colouring. You will study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection, there is also the option to learn about promoting products, perming, or relaxing different types of hair.

Advanced apprentices take their learning a step further by developing their cutting and colouring skills so they can carry out all the latest fashion techniques, and maybe even determine the fashion looks of the future. On this Apprenticeship you will spend a lot of time on your feet, and it is important that you look smart and have an even better hairstyle. Good communication plays an important role, to you will need to understand exactly what your customer wants in order to make them happy.

Course content

You will be required to complete the NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing as well as completing Employer Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will also be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide support.

Future opportunities

You will gain a nationally recognised qualification alongside the invaluable experience gained in dealing with clients and working as part of a team. Your salon will help with your training on a daily basis and offer styling sessions for you to practice your skills.

Progress to the level 3 (Advanced) Apprenticeship in Hairdressing or the level 2 (intermediate) Apprenticeship in Barbering. Your hairdressing Apprenticeship gained through Bishop Auckland College could lead to one of the following careers!: Stylist in a top salon, Photographic session work, Film & Television work, Work abroad & cruise liners.
